Pavers are the last hardscape standing in a Minnesota fall. Because they do not cure, installation can continue several weeks past the concrete cutoff — often into early December if the base can still be excavated and compacted.

Why fall is genuinely better for pavers
- No cure risk. Concrete can be ruined by an early freeze. A properly bedded paver field cannot.
- Dry soil. Fall subgrade is usually drier than spring mud, which makes for cleaner excavation and better compaction.
- Availability. Landscape crews finish their summer backlog in September. You get their attention and often their best pricing.
- Free settling. Winter freeze-thaw is a free load test. Any minor settlement shows up before you have furniture on it, and re-leveling a paver is a one-hour fix.
- Spring readiness. The patio is done in April, not being built in July.

The one hard limit is polymeric sand — it needs warmth and dry weather to activate. Past that point, a good crew installs the patio and comes back in spring to sweep and set the joints. That is normal and not a defect.

The base spec that survives Minnesota
