Why hardwood works in MN

Solid 3/4" oak handles 50+ winters in our humidity-controlled homes — and refinishes 4–6 times over its life. Engineered hardwood is more dimensionally stable in basements (where humidity swings) but can only refinish once or twice.

FAQ

LVP or hardwood — which is better?

LVP ($5–$10/sq ft) is waterproof, kid/pet proof, and great for basements and kitchens. Hardwood ($10–$18) adds resale value and refinishes for decades — best for living areas and bedrooms.

How long does flooring installation take?

800 sq ft typically: 1 day tear-out, 5–7 days hardwood acclimation, 2–3 days install. LVP and laminate skip acclimation — usually 2–4 days total.

Can I install hardwood in my basement?

Solid hardwood is not recommended below grade due to humidity. Engineered hardwood, LVP, or tile are all great basement options.

Will you move my furniture?

Yes — moving and protecting furniture is included. We'll need appliances disconnected by the homeowner or we can coordinate a plumber/electrician.

Do you refinish existing hardwood?

Yes — sand, stain, and 3 coats of polyurethane runs $4–$8/sq ft. Saves the cost of new flooring if your existing hardwood has at least 1/8" of wear layer.

What about pet scratches?

LVP and porcelain tile are virtually scratch-proof. Hardwood scratches but refinishes. Site-finished oak with matte poly hides scratches best.
