Tree Trimming & Pruning

Healthier trees, better shape, less risk to your home.

Professional Tree Trimming & Pruning in the Twin Cities

Healthy pruning is the single best investment you can make in your trees. Our ISA-aware crews trim oak, maple, ash, elm, basswood, and ornamental species across the Twin Cities — shaping for clearance, removing deadwood, raising canopies, and thinning for storm resistance.

When we trim

  • Oaks: November through March only (oak wilt safety window in MN).
  • Elms: October through March only (Dutch elm disease).
  • Maples & birches: late summer or dormant season to limit sap bleed.
  • Most others: late winter through early spring before bud break is ideal.

ServiceTypical price (Twin Cities)
Small tree (<25 ft)$150 – $400
Medium tree (25–50 ft)$400 – $900
Large tree (50–80 ft)$900 – $1,800
Very large oak/cottonwood (80+ ft)$1,800 – $3,500

Every job includes full cleanup, hauling, and a written estimate. We follow ANSI A300 pruning standards — no topping, no flush cuts, no climbing spikes on living trees.

Why prune?

Proper pruning improves structure, reduces storm-damage risk, removes hazards over your roof and driveway, increases sunlight to the lawn, and adds years to a tree's life. Bad pruning (topping, lion-tailing) does the opposite.

FAQ

When is the best time to trim trees in Minnesota?

For most species, late winter (Feb–March) before bud break is ideal. Oaks must be pruned Nov–March to avoid oak wilt, and elms Oct–March to avoid Dutch elm disease.

How much does tree trimming cost?

Twin Cities pricing typically runs $150–$400 for small trees, $400–$900 for medium, and $900–$1,800 for large trees. We provide free written estimates.

Do you climb with spikes?

Never on living trees. Spikes wound the cambium and invite decay. We climb with rope and saddle, or use a bucket truck when access allows.

Will trimming hurt my tree?

Proper pruning helps. We follow ANSI A300 standards — no topping, no flush cuts, and we never remove more than 25% of the live canopy in a single season.

Do you haul away the brush?

Yes — every quote includes complete cleanup and hauling. We leave your yard cleaner than we found it.

Do I need a permit to trim my tree?

Not on private property in most Twin Cities suburbs. Boulevard trees (between sidewalk and street) usually require city permission.
